Property Taxation In FranceI have moved to France. Have three properties in England that are let. The administration of the tenancies I deal with from France with the aid of the Internet, especially Skype telephone service. Distance is not a problem. However, I am concerned about the taxation system here in France. I have learned that worldwide assets over about €750,000 are subject to additional tax known as Wealth Tax. I understand this tax is calculated to include certain allowance. That is a reduction of 30% on the main home and believe between 20% and 40% on the let properties. We spoke to a French accountant who told us if the properties were situated in France, we could register as “Loueur en Meublé Professional” in which case the properties would be exempt from this additional Taxation. The French accountant asked us if we were a member of a similar organisation in England. He told us he would have to write to the French tax Office in Paris to obtain an answer. He was was hopeful that a way round this problem could be achieved. However, he insisted on preparing my English Tax Return as well as the French Tax return. I am not in agreement with this because of the additional costs and have always preferred to undertake my own UK Self-Assessment tax submission. I have found the UK Tax Inspectors to be helpfull and polite. I wrote a number of times to the French Tax Office in Paris in English and French and received an acknowledgement to one letter but never a reply. Some time ago I contacted a well-advertised English firm of financial advisors here in France. Their main interest was for me to take out investments with them and suggest we sold our properties and invested with them. During our telephone conversation they suggested we form a limited company in England but I know this was definitely wrong advice. We also spoke to another professional who suggested that I do nothing. This could have been because at present I would not be liable to this tax. My concern is not knowing and the future. I would like to make contact with any landlords resident in France who would be willing to give their experience in dealing with this Tax in France. Their experience living in France with a small letting business in England.0sundy23
